Tax Information Bulletin - First Time Home Buyers Rebate

Effective January 1, 2002, The Nova Scotia First Time Home Buyers HST
Rebate will be 18.75 % of the provincial portion of the HST paid (or 1.5% of the
pre-tax purchase price) to a maximum of $1500, regardless the price of the
house.

Previously, the rebate was available on all new homes, regardless of whether
or not you were a first time home buyer, to a maximum of $2250.

Eligibility

To qualify as a First Time Home Buyer, the individual and their spouse or
common-law partner must not have owned and occupied a home in Canada
within the preceding five years.

The following are estimates of costs involved in buying a property. The total amount needed for closing costs is usually between 3%-5% of a total purchase price, and are in addition to the down-payment
